Material expression

The project is organised around two outdoor terraces positioned within the rear garden of the residence. One seating area sits beside the swimming pool beneath a traditional thatched lapa, forming a relaxed setting for outdoor gatherings, while the second terrace connects directly to the home through sliding doors on the southern side of the house.

Large-format paving slabs in a deep charcoal tone establish a grounded and contemporary surface across both spaces. Using the same material throughout allows the terraces and connecting walkways to read as a cohesive composition rather than separate elements within the garden.

A double cobble border frames the paving with subtle texture and definition, refining the layout while anchoring the darker paving surface within the surrounding landscape. Over time, the planting around the pathways will mature and soften the edges, allowing the paved surfaces to integrate naturally with the garden.

The result is a calm and cohesive garden layout where terraces and pathways connect the home, pool, and landscape into a unified outdoor living environment.
