Constantia

For this pavement paving project in Constantia, exposed aggregate bricks in a warm brownstone tone were selected to sit comfortably beneath the mature tree canopy. The intention was to create a surface that feels natural and grounded, allowing the paving to integrate with its surroundings rather than dominate them.

Location — Constantia
Client — Private
Scope — Pavement and sidewalk paving beneath mature street trees
Completion — 2025

Material — Coarse exposed aggregate paver - Brownstone

Lava cobble - Charcoal

Material expression

The coarse exposed aggregate surface provides a subtle texture that resonates with the natural character of the site. Its earthy brownstone tone softens the presence of the paved area beneath the canopy of established trees, allowing the material palette to feel calm and grounded.

Rather than rigid geometry, gentle curves were introduced to mirror the organic movement of the tree trunks and root zones. A single charcoal cobble border frames the paving edge with quiet precision, defining the space while maintaining a restrained and cohesive composition.

The result is a sidewalk that feels as though it belongs to the landscape — measured, natural and carefully resolved within its environment.
